Although invisibly, it is actually evident how the body, emotions and feelings are closely linked. I don’t know how to play with my balance uses a playful object such as the hula-hoop (the use of which concentrates mainly in the area between the pelvis and the intestine while also requiring strong mental concentration) to activate conflicting emotions that are capable of destabilizing the viewer’s emotional status. The fragility of the balance between the gut and the brain is accentuated by the material the hoops are made of, namely painted concrete, that are swayed by the performer until they shatter into pieces.

The interactive installation, composed of two Hula hoops suspended in balance by an electronic pulley, reflects on the multiple emotions externalized by the crowd at an opening. At the vernissage of Viafarini open studio (Dec. 21, 2022, Milan), the artist observed the audience throughout the event, activating the work whenever an individual in the room changed mood.

A laugh, an embarrassed smile or a feeling of discomfort would activate a mechanism that would pull the string, thus causing the circles to swing. Such movement from the duration of a few seconds is the physical manifestation of a real psychophysical change occurred within the organism of the person observed.

In the hectic nature of today's society, it is now common for an individual to subject his or her body to a state of emergency for very long periods of time and to unexpressed or unresolved emotions, such as states of anxiety dragged out over the years, difficulties in dealing with anger or old grudges: the lack of time does not make us process our feelings, somatizing them into physical symptoms that we trivialize and blindly underestimate. Relaxation technique is an electronic installation that spins a painted concrete Hula hoop in a slow, incessant circular motion, causing the 'observer to feel anxious relaxation.
