project in collaboration with Sidonie Pellegrino.
Print on polyester paper, 90 x 170 cm.
From the exhibition Softly disappear, Venice.
The site-specific work presents three different interpretations of a single poetic text, creating an intense dialogue between the enigmatic prophecies of the Cumaean Sibyl and modern artificial intelligence technology. The end result is graphically and symbolically intertwined in a play of empty and full spaces, generating an original and innovative key to interpretation. Pellegrino’s text on the Sibyl (white text) has an independent meaning when read individually, just as Gurgone’s text with artificial intelligence (black text) possesses its own independent meaning. However, when read together, the two texts create a third meaning, offering a new and additional key to interpretation.
Translation:
It’s morning of pale stillness, the sky swells
a sulphurous mist rages, superb
the muffled roar. crystal clear and sly footsteps
Buzzes around a flock hungry for ode
The immemorial legacy of ancient travail
that of apollonian takes possession, flying
of sibylline mystery is tinged. it goes on, he
Professes and prophesies, proud, free, uninjured
From the rugged cavern in which from all fear,
relegated by the mysterious and unknown goal.
alive!
You inside the doubt of shapes and contours, think
That I have fooled you, who you want to be,
or was it you who wondered whether to seek the black
wandering that seemed to have the dreaded death.
eternal life, yes, can contain essence,
but without youth? how can you live
the real you?
Laid your sweat
Fresh you keep your promises,
in sacrifice, to the gallows ready, the heart is
ignorant of man’s love, in faith,
in the name of a sun god now sinks thunder
that in the shade sets you and you tremble, you flee.
But it’s time for you to loosen your tresses, your self,
cast away the blindfold, your destiny is here,
before only the deserted voice of you defers!
Sibyl. Typing your valor, you will fade away.
