It was 1912 when pharmacist Metello Morganti formulated a digestive with strong tonic and invigorating virtues, later marketing it under the name Viparo, the Terni bitter. After 111 years, artist Camilla Gurgone invites the city to taste the drink in its original administration, giving each user a pharmaceutical dropper capable of containing hidden details and sensations.
The artist has come up with 50 phrases and words that explore details, emotions and hidden details while consuming a bitter. These phrases will be engraved on dropper pipettes, becoming the focus of the project. The research is based on the bitter Viparo, created in Terni in the early 1900s by Metello Morganti, a pharmacist who prescribed it in drops as a digestive.
"Vis pario" is a relational installation created in collaboration with Amaro Viparo and a commercial establishment that usually sells it. According to the agreement with the establishment, employees (bartenders or waiters) will offer a free glass of Viparo in the usual doses and glasses. The novelty is the inclusion of a dropper pipette in the glass, filled with liquor to "hide" the engraved inscription. The user will taste the bitter through the pipette, and only when it is empty will the writing appear, revealing itself to initially unaware eyes.
The goal is to reformulate an everyday, familiar and usual moment by making it something surprising, creating a short-circuit that questions the awareness of that instant, offering a new, hitherto unknown perspective. The engraved phrases are deliberately open and introspective to stimulate questioning and dialogue. At the end of fruition, the consumer can take the dropper away with them.
